New Delhi, Jan 18: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) announced that Aadhaar cards will no longer be accepted as a valid proof of date of birth, following a directive from UIDAI. The decision, communicated through a circular on Tuesday, has received approval from the Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC).
UIDAI’s directive emphasised that, as per the Aadhaar Act, 2016, Aadhaar is not recognised as proof of date of birth. In compliance, EPFO removes Aadhaar from the list of acceptable documents for correcting the date of birth, specifically in Table-B of Annexure-1 of the Joint Declaration SOP issued earlier.

EPFO to update its application software to adhere to the revised guidelines, with the Internal System Division (ISD) tasked with the required modifications. The circular directs all zonal and regional offices of EPFO to ensure comprehensive implementation of these updated guidelines.
Recent court judgements, including one from the Bombay High Court, affirm that Aadhaar cannot serve as proof of date of birth.
EPFO recognises the following documents as valid proof of date of birth:
# Birth certificate by Registrar of Births and Death
# Marksheet from recognised government body or university
# School Leaving Certificate (SLC), School Transfer Certificate (TC), or SSC certificate
# Certificate based on service records
# PAN card
