Eugeneson Lyngdoh wins Mawphlang bye-election with huge margin of 4401 votes

Shillong, Nov 2: United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate and former football star, Eugeneson Lyngdoh, has won the Mawphlang seat by emphatically defeating his nearest rival by a margin of 4401 votes.Eugeneson secured 13,285 votes while his nearest rival Kennedy Khyriem of Congress secured 8,884 votes at the end of the 9 rounds of counting of EVM votes and postal ballots on Tuesday here for the Mawphlang bye-election.

Meanwhile, National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Lamphrang Blah secured 5,103 votes.
Mawphlang constituency has 33,194 voters, of which about 76.9% or 27,474 voted on October 30.

Eugeneson’s father, (L) Syntar Klas Sunn, was the sitting Independent MLA from the Mawphlang constituency who died due to COVID-19 infection on September 10, 2021.

Although he did not join UDP officially, he was associated with UDP.

After the death of his father, his father’s supporters had approached him to contest the election to succeed his late father. He later joined the UDP to jump into the election fray.
