Dibrugarh, Sept 11: The death of Mehek Sharma, who was found dead on Dibrugarh town bypass on Sunday, is hinted at being a murder instead of an accident and compelling evidence has come forward although police are still probing all angles.
Addressing a press conference, Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police, Shwetank Mishra, on Monday said, “We have started investigation into the matter. We have arrested the prime suspect Aziz Ahmed yesterday (Sunday) and today (Monday) he was produced to court. We will be analysing all scientific evidences collected from the site.”
The body of Mehek with severe injury marks was found lying on the road near a car bearing registration number AS-06-AH-1143 on the middle of the bypass.
A person, who was later identified as one Aziz Ahmed alias Munna, was found lying on the road alongside the dead girl with no injuries. The car belonged to him.
While Mehek Sharma lived in Khalihamari area of Dibrugarh, Aziz Ahmed is a resident of Maijan in Dibrugarh.
Sources said Aziz is reportedly a professional gambler, and gives money on interest. He has no other business. His mother Munmi Begum was earlier Congress Mahila Morcha Dibrugarh district President.
Meanwhile, Mehek’s mother Moushumi Sharma alleged that her daughter was murdered by Aziz Ahmed.
“My daughter has been murdered by Aziz Ahmed. He has been troubling my daughter for the last six months. I’m a teacher and use to live alone with my daughter. When I threatened to file a police complaint against him, he threatened us of dire consequences. Yesterday at 3.30pm he forcefully took her out for a drive. At 8.30pm she called saying that she was having dinner in a dhaba. That was the last phone call from her. Aziz Ahmed killed her in cold blood,” Moushumi Sharma said.
During initial investigation it has come to light that Aziz Ahmed, who is married and a father of two children, had been pressuring Mehek Sharma to have a relationship with him since last six months.
Ahmed had allegedly taken Mehek for a drive on his car at around 3.30pm on Saturday. Police said that blood stains were found inside the car and scratch marks of nails were discovered on Aziz Ahmed’s neck.
“Mehek was allegedly murdered by Aziz because he wanted to marry her and she denied. Mehek was pushed from the moving vehicle. Before murdering her, Aziz tortured her,” claimed a police source.
