Delhi, Aug 6: India’s Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft successfully entered the lunar orbit on Saturday. It is said that if the mission goes well and according to the ISRO’s plan, it will touch down near the Moon’s little-explored south pole between August 23 and 24.
ISRO launched the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into orbit on July 14.
How important the Chandrayaan-3 Mission is for India:
If ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft lands a robotic lunar rover, it will make India the fourth country to master the technology of soft-landing on the moon’s surface after China, US, and the former Soviet Union.
Chandrayaan-3 Mission: In four years, this is ISRO’s second attempt.
Chandrayaan’s maiden mission was in 2008.
Chandrayaan-2 failed in its lunar phase after its lander, ‘Vikram’ crashed into the surface of the moon while attempting a soft landing on September 7, 2019.
What will happen when Chandrayaan enters the lunar orbit?
Chandrayaan-3, which is also known as a “Mooncraft” in Sanskrit, was “successfully inserted into the lunar orbit” on Saturday (August 5), 22 days after it was launched.
There will be three more operations until August 17; after that, the Landing Module Vikram carrying the rover Pragyan inside will break away from the Propulsion Module.
Following this, de-orbiting manoeuvres will be carried out on the lander before the final powered descent on the moon, which is expected on August 23 or 24.
Chandrayaan-3 Mission:
The orbit-raising maneuver (Earth-bound perigee firing) is performed successfully from ISTRAC/ISRO, Bengaluru.
The spacecraft is expected to attain an orbit of 127609 km x 236 km. The achieved orbit will be confirmed after the observations.

What message did Chandrayaan-3 give to ISRO:
After Chandrayaan reached the lunar’s orbit, it said, “I am feeling lunar gravity”.
The message read,” MOX, ISTRAC, this is Chandrayaan-3. I am feeling lunar gravity”.
