75 years of India’s Independence: NEC to organise several activities under AKAM programmes; Check Dates here

Shillong, Aug 6: The North Eastern Council (NEC) will be conducting several programmes/ activities as a part of celebration of second year of 75th years of India’s Independence under Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav (AKAM).

What is Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav?

Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav is a year-long celebration to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence. It aims to honor the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and showcase India’s progress and achievements since gaining independence. The Mahotsav will include various cultural events, exhibitions, and initiatives that highlight the diversity and unity of the nation.

In 2022, NEC had conducted similar activities.

This year, three main events will be organised under AKAM programmes, check here

I. Bike Ride: 

• With a message of Health, Education, Climate Change, Women Safety and Empowerment.

• To be conducted in the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya. Nagaland and Mizoram

• The bike rides will be conducted from August 7 to August 15, 2023.

II. FM Radio Programme on AKAM:

• Freedom Week to be celebrated from August 7th to August 15th, 2023.

• Several programmes, such as song requests, a freedom quiz with attractive prizes for the winners, awareness generation, and a talk show or interview with the secretary,

III. Fitness and Sports Programme:

• Trekking by officials and Staff of the NEC on July 27, 2023, in about 93 officials and staff, both young and old, have participated.

• NEC Invitational Football Tournament.

This is being organised from August 5, 2023, to August 11, 2023, at Polo Ground, Shillong.

A total of nine teams have confirmed their participation.

(i) North Eastern Council Secretariat NEC Invitational Football Tournament.

This is being organised from August 5 to  August 11, 2023, at Polo Ground, Shillong. A total of nine teams have confirmed their participation.

(i) North Eastern Council Secretariat. This football competition was inaugurated by the Secretary of NEC. K. Moses Chalai, IAS, on Saturday.

(ii) Indian Institute of Management, Shillong

(iii) Chief Secretary’s XI (Govt. of Meghalaya)

(iv) Principal Accountant General (A&E) Shillong

(v) Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) (vi) Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MECL)

(vii) North Eastern Indira Gandhi Institute of Health and Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS) (viii) Defence Accounts Department (DAD)

(ix) Office of the Commissioner of Customs (Preventive)  Brief on the Football Tournament:

• There will be cash prizes of Rs. 30, 000.00 (Rupees Thirty Thousand) for the winner and Rs. 15,000.00 (Rupees Fifteen Thousand) for the runners up team.

• Medals and certificates will also be awarded to winners, and runner-up teams certificates of participation will be awarded to other participating teams.

• The play format will be a knockout system due to limited time.

• All international standard football (FIFA) rules will be followed.
