EXPLAINED: What is I-N-D-I-A, Opposition alliance’s new name?

Shillong, July 18: Opposition alliance has been named I-N-D-I-A – Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance. The name was on Tuesday confirmed by JDU & Shiv Sena(UBT).

Taking to Twitter, JDU’s official handle said that the new name for opposition alliance has been named “INDIA.”

Confirming the name, Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote, “So 2024 will be Team INDIA Vs Team NDA, Chak De, INDIA!.”

Earlier, TMC MP Derek O’Brien also Tweeted, “Chak De! INDIA” amid reports of opposition naming its grand alliance as “INDIA” at the Bengaluru meeting.

What is I-N-D-I-A?

The acronym I-N-D-I-A, or the Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance was suggested to name the mega opposition front that seeks to take on the ruling BJP in the upcoming 2024 Assembly elections.

In the two-day meeting, top leaders of at least 26 parties participated to firm up a possible coalition to take on the BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the next general election.

On the second day of the mega Opposition conclave in Bengaluru, the political parties discussed about the possible names for an alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

After confirming the name of the opposition alliance, the top leaders of the opposition parties addressed a joint press conference after their big meeting in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
