Shillong, Dec 12: In a shocking incident near Langpih area, unidentified assailants attacked two teachers, resulting in the tragic death of one and leaving the other critically wounded.
The deceased teacher, identified as Tengton R Sangma, aged 48, succumbed to the brutal assault, while Surja Kumar Chetri, 49, sustained severe injuries.
According to police reports, the teachers were commuting from Nongstoiñ on a motorcycle with registration number AS-25-E-1324. Upon reaching a secluded area, they were ambushed by the miscreants, who mercilessly assaulted them, leaving them severely wounded. The attackers then heartlessly pushed the victims and their motorcycle near a drain.
In a desperate bid for help, one of the injured teachers attempted to stop a passing bus, sustaining further injuries in the process.
Initial speculations suggest that the assailants may have intended to rob the teachers before fleeing into the nearby jungle.
Following the harrowing assault, the injured teacher was swiftly rushed to Nongstoin Civil Hospital for urgent medical attention, while police have launched an investigation into the incident. A case has been registered, and a search operation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
