Tura, Aug 4: The District Tuberculosis Centre, West Garo Hills recently organized a two-day intensive program on ‘awareness cum active case finding’ for the teachers and students at Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School and Don Bosco College Higher Sec. Section, respectively.
The awareness programme was held on August 2 – 3 where DTO in-charge Dr. Riksilchi M. Sangma highlighted the significance of Tuberculosis (TB), its impact at the society. She further explained the four main symptoms of Tuberculosis, like cough of any duration, fever, night sweat and weight loss.
She also added whenever one comes across such persons, they should be referred to the nearest health centres.
She further said TB is a preventable and curable disease; testing and treatment is available free of cost in all government health facilities.
Dr. Sangma also urged the staff and students not to stigmatized TB patients but to spread the awareness to the communities as community participation is needed in eliminating TB by the year 2025.
