Tura, Aug 5: Grover Cleveland R. Marak, the first Garo architect and former president of the A’chik Baptist Dalgipa Krima (ABDK), died after a prolonged battle with ill health on Sunday. He was 83.
Marak made history as the first Garo to earn a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He also completed advanced coursework in Architecture at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
He served the state government and retired as Director in the Urban Affairs Department.
Lt. Marak served as ABDK President for many years and made significant contributions to the church’s activities in Assam and the Garo Hills.
Renowned for his exceptional architectural designs, he generously provided his expertise to those in need.
Despite his remarkable achievements, Marak was known for his humility and dedication to serving the Lord Jesus Christ.
He led a simple life.
He leaves behind his wife, Voila Katleen G. Momin, Retd. Associate Professor of Tura Govt. College, Tura.
Marak is survived by his four sons: the eldest, Ringrang Theopilus G. Momin, an MPS officer; his second son, a medical doctor at Tura Civil Hospital; and his third and fourth sons, both school teachers.
