First Pic of main culprit seen wearing green t-shirt, holding naked woman in Manipur Viral video released

Imphal, July 20: Hours after the viral video of two naked women being paraded in the violence hit state had gone viral, Govt Sources revealed the details and first picture of the main culprit who was arrested for being involved in the horrific crime.

In the viral video, the main culprit who was wearing a green t-shirt and seen holding the woman was arrested on Thursday morning in an operation after proper identification.

The accused had been identified as Huirem Herodas Meitei (32 years) of Pechi Awang Leikai.

According to Manipur Police, the incident is said to have occurred on May 4, a day after violence erupted in the state.

A regular FIR was filed on June 21, but the first arrest in this matter was done only after the video has gone viral on social media on Wednesday.

CM N Biren Singh on Manipur Viral Video

N.Biren Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur on Thursday said, “My hearts go out to the two women who were subjected to a deeply disrespectful and inhumane act, as shown in the distressing video that surfaced yesterday. After taking a Suo-moto cognisance of the incident immediately after the video surfaced, the Manipur Police swung to action and made the first arrest this morning.”

“A thorough investigation is currently underway and we will ensure strict action is taken against all the perpetrators, including considering the possibility of capital punishment. Let it be known, there is absolutely no place for such heinous acts in our society,” he said in a Tweet.

Letter to PM Modi

Meanwhile, CPI MP Binoy Viswam has also written a letter to the Prime Minister regarding women being paraded naked by armed assailants, he wrote the incident has completely exposed the absence of any semblance of law and order, respect for women & presence of government authority.

He also urged the PM to come out of hibernation on the Manipur issue and take appropriate action to instil trust and confidence in the people of the border state

In Manipur, over 150 people lost their lives in the ethnic ongoing violence in the state.
