Tura, July 20: Football fever reached a crescendo in Tura on Sunday night as thousands of fans converged on the Chief Minister’s FIFA World Cup Fan Park at Parade Ground to watch the much-anticipated World Cup final between Argentina and Spain.

Hours before kick-off, the venue wore the look of a packed stadium, with supporters streaming in wearing the colours of their favourite teams. Argentina’s blue-and-white jerseys competed with Spain’s red, while flags, face paint and chants created a carnival atmosphere in the heart of the townThe excitement began well before the match, with performances by artists from the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme (CM MGMP) setting the tone for the evening. Musical acts Safe N Sound and Jasmine kept the crowd entertained with energetic performances, turning the fan park into a giant celebration of football and music.As the giant screens lit up and the final got underway, cheers and chants echoed across the Parade Ground, underscoring Meghalaya’s enduring love for the beautiful game.

The community viewing event, organised by the state government, drew football enthusiasts of all ages and highlighted the sport’s unique ability to bring people together, with Tura witnessing one of its biggest public gatherings for a sporting event in recent years.
