Shillong, FEB 23:  Former KHADC chairman Martamlin Pyrbot on Tuesday formally re-joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Welcoming Pyrbot to the party’s fold, BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said that his rejoining will help strengthen the party as he is one of the oldest members of the Meghalaya BJP.

He added that many former MLAs and MDCs in Garo Hills region had expressed desire to join the BJP as they had seen the potential of the party in the state.

Mawrie said that in order to win more seats in the 2023 election, the party needed to strengthen its organization at the grass root level in the Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills.

Speaking during the felicitation program, Pyrbot said that his association with the party is not new as he was one of the members who had introduced the BJP in Meghalaya.

“In the past I have contested on a BJP ticket and today after so many years I have come back to the party as I have seen that the party under the leadership of prime minister Narendra Modi has potential to bring about development in the state” said Pyrbot.

Pyrbot said that the people of the state must choose BJP as it is a party that aims to root out all illegal activities and corruption in order to make sure that people of the state are benefited from all central and state government schemes.

When asked, Pyrbot said that though he is keen to contest the up-coming election, it depends on the party to decide whether he is fit or not to contest the election.
