Must read

Tura, Oct 25: A former Meghalaya civil services officer Santosh R Marak and a senior Congress leader from Williamnagar has passed away in Apollo Hospital, Chennai on Wednesday following post heart surgery complications

Late Santosh Marak was the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary for East and North Garo Hills at the time of his demise.

He was one of the first few Garo MCS officers and earned a distinction for being a no-nonsence officer.

A sticker for rules, he clashed with politicians many a times during his tenure as an MCS officer.

“I am the most transfered officer in the history of MCS” he once told this scribe.
Undaunted by criticism, he once took the leaders of the Garo Students union to court for false allegations against him.

He took voluntary retirement from service and joined the BJP and unsuccessfully contested the 2013 assembly elections from Williamnagar constituency.

He left the BJP and joined the Congress and campaigned for Deborah Marak in the 2023 elections from the same constituency.

Having battled a cardiac problem for many years, he fell seriously ill and had to be rushed to Chennai for a complicated heart surgery.
