Tura, Mar 27: The final day of nominations for 2-ST Lok sabha poll concluded with Zenith Sangma from the Trinamool Congress being the last to file the nomination at the Returning Officers (RO) Chamber in DC office, Tura on Wednesday.
A total of 4 Candidates have filed nominations, one being an independent candidate. The scrutiny of the papers will be done on 28th March 2024.
The security and surveillance has beefed up in the state as well as in the Garo hills to ensure fair elections. The government has taken up measures to track the flow of cash and also to assure that no freebies are distributed in the area with the ongoing campaigning.
The West Garo Hills district has a total of 539 polling stations. Additional two companies of BSF have been deployed from outside along with extra companies from state police and CAPF.
Speaking to Hub news Jagdish Chelani, RO for WGH said, “Security of the district is addressed very seriously and a total of 67 naka checkings are in place in the district along with flying squad and static surveillance teams deployed in various locations.
SST has been deployed in 40 locations along the district and a total 33 Flying squads are at work. The FST can intercept within 30mins time of any complaints lodged.
He also added “EVM’s has three tier security and will be managed as per protocol”
Tura alone will have a total of 53 strong room from District HQ to ISBT, and will be under strong surveillance and security and guarded until the counting of votes. The administration has also planned for designated counting and dispatch rooms which are already set up.
The excise team will be putting up night patrols, night raids in the district to curb illicit liquor as well as distribution of liquor. It will be confiscated as per protocol.
The income tax department will track and monitor electronic fund transfer of over more than 10 lakhs. Jagdish Chelani , said that “the IT team on ground is at work and any discrepancy will be reported and due action will be taken by them as per the protocol”
Taking into account that drugs can be also used for influencing voters, the district has taking measure under the NDPS and the matter will be adhered with the protocols placed.
The ESMS app which was introduced by the ECI will play a crucial role in this election as it will be used for expenditure monitoring and seizure maintainence. Under this app, Nodal officer from the district have been appointed for each dept and any malpractice will be reported.
