Guwahati, March 1: In a major decision aimed at restoring normalcy in Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed that free movement of people on all roads in the state must be ensured from March 8, 2025.
The directive came during a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi, attended by key officials, including the Governor of Manipur, senior officers from the Army, paramilitary forces, and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
This move is seen as a crucial step toward stabilizing the state, which has witnessed prolonged unrest and disruptions in public movement. Ensuring unrestricted travel across Manipur signals the government’s intent to restore civilian confidence and reinforce law and order.

“The Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is fully committed to bringing lasting peace to Manipur. We are providing all necessary assistance to achieve this,” Shah stated. He also instructed strict action against those attempting to create obstructions.
Over the past year, roadblocks, security concerns, and ethnic tensions have hampered movement across Manipur, affecting essential supplies, trade, and daily life. Shah’s order is expected to facilitate smoother connectivity, benefiting both residents and businesses.
Apart from the movement directive, Shah also emphasized the need for eexpediting fencing of Manipur’s international border entry points and an intensified crackdown on the drug trade.
