Shillong, April 8: After an outstanding performance in the 2nd French-Indo Football Tournament recently held in Paris, the Meghalaya U-18 team has received a special invitation from one of France’s top football club — Olympique Lyonnais, for a 20-day exclusive training camp in France.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced this on Tuesday while welcoming and felicitating the team on their return. The Meghalaya team, represented by Mynken Higher Secondary School from Bhoirymbong came third in the tournament.

The Chief Minister praised the team for their hard work, skill and determination during the tournament.
He said that the ₹50 lakh spent by the government for the team’s travel to France was not just an expense but an investment to give the players more exposure and better opportunities in the future.
He said the training at Lyon Academy will help the players improve their game and give them a chance to learn from one of the best football clubs in the world.

The academy of Olympique Lyonnais has produced numerous talented footballers over the years, including World Cup and Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema; World Cup winner and former Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris; World Cup winner and former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette; World Cup winner and Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti; World Cup winner Nabil Fekir; Brazilian midfielder and free-kick expert Juninho Pernambucano; Indian-origin and former French international Vikash Dhorasoo; and Champions League winner with Chelsea, Michael Essien.
