According to the Chief Minister, Razi was discovered unresponsive in his hotel room, and preliminary reports indicate he suffered a heart attack in his sleep. His colleagues, along with hotel staff, broke open the door to find his body. His wife, an officer in the central government, has travelled to Uzbekistan to bring back his remains, which are expected to arrive late on Tuesday evening. The family will proceed with the last rites on Wednesday.
Razi, who came to Meghalaya on deputation from the railway services four years ago, was highly respected for his leadership and dedication. He served as Mission Director of the Jal Jeevan Mission, under which the state achieved remarkable progress in providing safe drinking water to its residents. Chief Minister Sangma praised his contributions, stating, “Under his leadership, the Jal Jeevan Mission reached heights we could never imagine.”
Just days before his passing, the Government of India had approved an extension of Razi’s tenure in Meghalaya for another year, allowing him to continue his impactful work.
Ministers and MLAs, including Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma, PHE Minister Marcuise N. Marak, and Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma, took to social media to express their condolences.
