Must read

Guwahati, Aug 14: A long-abandoned building, initially constructed by Arunachal Tourism Department, has now been transformed into a hub of adventure.

And for those seeking the thrill of both peaks and rapids, Arunachal Pradesh is fast becoming the ultimate frontier.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today inaugurated the Aqua Excellence Center at the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) in Tippi, marking a bold new chapter in Arunachal’s adventure tourism story.

The setting of the Aqua Excellence Center is perfect for adventure lovers who can hear the roar of Kameng river in the background.

NIMAS has already earned its reputation as a premier institution in mountaineering and adventure sports, providing adrenaline seekers with the ultimate trifecta – land, air, and now water training. With this new addition, NIMAS is set to make waves in aqua adventure sports, offering world-class training in everything from white-water rafting to scuba diving.

“Arunachal Pradesh’s rivers are our natural playgrounds,” Khandu stated with a sense of pride. “This center will harness that potential and elevate our state into a global destination for aqua sports.”

NIMAS, known for producing adventurers is poised to turn Arunachal’s vast water bodies into thrilling adventure arenas. The centre is under the leadership of Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal, a man who has summited Everest three times.

The Chief Minister praised NIMAS Director, Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal for utilizing a building built by the state Tourism department, which was lying unused since years. He also lauded the Tourism department headed by Director K N Damo for renovating the entire building at a modest budget of Rs 95 lakhs.

The event also celebrated NIMAS’s “Har Shikhar Tiranga” team, which accomplished the extraordinary feat of planting the Tricolour on the highest peak of every Indian state. “Their spirit is indomitable,” Khandu said.

Khandu flagged off the Mount Gorichen Massif Expedition, aiming to conquer the highest peak in Arunachal Pradesh. In his address, he highlighted the potential for the state to draw mountaineers just as Nepal does for Everest. “Mount Gorichen can be our Everest,” he emphasized, envisioning Arunachal as a thriving hub of both climbing and trekking tourism.

A coffee-table book was released and a documentary on the “Har Shikhar Tiranga Mission” was shown.
