Shillong , Oct 25: National People’s Party (NPP) national general secretary and deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday said that the report on the ground has indicated that the party candidate for the Gambegre bye-poll is much ahead compared to others.
“As of today, the report is very positive from the ground. Our candidate is very ahead compared to the other candidates (joining the fray for the upcoming bye election),” Dhar told reporters.
Appealing to the people of Gambegre to vote for the NPP candidate, Dr Mehtab Chandee A Sangma, who is also wife of the chief minister Conrad K Sangma, the deputy CM said that the party’s main focus is to bring development in the constituency.
Dr Mehtab will be contesting against five other candidates – Sadhiarani M Sangma of the TMC and wife of former Rangsakona MLA Zenith Sangma, Jingjang M Marak of the Congress and a close aide of former Gambegre MLA and now Tura MP Saleng A Sangma, BJP state vice president and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak and independents – Sengkrabirth Marak and Jerry A Sangma – in the upcoming Gambegre bye-poll, slated to be held on November 13.
Dhar said that the entry of BJP’s candidate will not affect the NPP. “You see, every party has the right to set up a candidate. No harm. BJP will fight on their own, Congress on their own, TMC on their own and NPP on their own. Simple.”
Moreover, the NPP leader said that TMC is also not a threat to his party adding “I think TMC candidate is very much below our candidate as per report (on the ground).”
On the TMC’s allegation against the NPP for violating the model code of conduct (MCC), Dhar said let the election commission look into the matter and take action.
