Shillong, Aug 20: Following the resignation of 3-time legislator, Saleng A. Sangma, from Gambegre after he was elected to Lok Sabha as Tura MP earlier this year, the Meghalaya Election Department has informed that the bye-poll for the vacant constituency must be held before December 4, 2024. It also assured that it has already been preparing for the upcoming bye-election.
Informing this, State’s Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. BDR Tiwari, confirmed that all preparations are in line with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
Dr. Tiwari also mentioned that the Election Commission of India held a meeting via video conference on Tuesday with various state election departments.
Additionally, there has been a special summary revision of the electoral roll for 2025, as directed by the Election Commission.
