Tura, Dec 2: In a significant step towards fostering entrepreneurship in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills Region, the Investment Facilitation Roundtable for Private Sector Development was held on November 29, 2023.

The event, jointly organized by the District Commerce and Industries Center in Tura, the Meghalaya State Investment Promotion Board (MSIPB) under the Government of Meghalaya, and Invest India, drew together 30 entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds in the region.

The Meghalaya State Investment Promotion Board, with a focus on identifying infrastructural gaps and positioning Meghalaya as an appealing investment destination, is actively developing an Meghalaya Investment Portal (MIP). The portal aims to cater to the specific needs of local entrepreneurs and investors.

The roundtable aimed to facilitate a dialogue with local entrepreneurs, delving into the challenges they face in operating, expanding, or scaling up their businesses. Representatives from banks were also present at the event.

Among the challenges highlighted by entrepreneurs were issues related to marketing, the availability of skilled manpower, and procuring raw materials.

An integral part of the event was the onboarding of entrepreneurs onto the Meghalaya Investment Portal, offering services such as business-investor matchmaking. The portal, designed to be user-friendly, will incorporate essential features based on the feedback received from entrepreneurs. Matchmaking services will cover crucial aspects like fundraising, partnerships, mentorships, and more.

Additionally, the Meghalaya Investment Portal will provide sectoral information, highlight available funding opportunities, and showcase job and skilling opportunities for the local populace.
