Tura, June 2: Several Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Garo Hills have decided to cancel the highly anticipated public meeting and rally that was scheduled to take place on Saturday in view of the meeting called by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
The meeting, which aimed to address the concerns surrounding the Roster system and Job Reservation Policy, has been postponed indefinitely.
Prominent NGOs such as the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), Achik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO), A’chik Students’ Welfare Association (ASWA), FAF, Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), A·chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK), GHULU, Garo Farmers Union (GFU), AIGU, GSMC, and A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) were among the participating organizations.
The decision to cancel the event was made after a thorough discussion among the NGO leaders, who believe it would be more beneficial to first engage in a dialogue with the Chief Minister.
“We, the leaders of various NGOs, have decided to prioritize a discussion with our honorable Chief Minister before proceeding with the public meeting,” stated Pritam Arengh, President of FKJGP.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is scheduled to chair a meeting with a host of Garo Hills-based organisations in Tura on Saturday to discuss the topics of the roster system and the job reservation policy. The meeting is scheduled to take place at 11.30 am at Tura Circuit House.
