He was responding to a query on the indefinite strike called by the ACHIK demanding the government to implement the roster system retrospectively and the winter capital in Tura, West Garo Hills District.
In a statement, ACHIK president Thomas M Marak said, “Today, we are issuing an ultimatum to the Meghalaya Government, demanding immediate and decisive action to implement the Roster System retrospectively in all public sector organizations, departments, and educational institutions.”
He said in guideline ‘A. Quantum of Reservation’ the OM provides for reservation of ‘posts’ whereas Resolution dt 12th January 1972 decided on reservation of ‘vacancies’, so the Roster is in conflict with the Reservation Policy.
Further, Passah said that the CM's statement that the advertisements will start from a particular serial number wherever data are available from 1972 but will start from "one" wherever data are not available is highly objectionable.
Several Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Garo Hills have decided to cancel the highly anticipated public meeting and rally that was scheduled to take place on Saturday in view of the meeting called by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
