Tura, July 25: West Garo Hills Police said that they have arrested 22 anti-social elements so far in the Tura mob attack incident, including Jackson A. Sangma.
Jackson A. Sangma was also present during the meeting when CM Conrad was interacting with the ACHIK and other NGO’s over their demands on making Tura as the winter capital and reservation policy.
Jackson A Sangma (36), is a son of Sangjang R Marak is a resident of Nikwatgre Dakopgre West Garo Hills Tura.
The other three who have been arrested have been identified as Richard M Marak, Thengsang Ch Momin and Anurag A Sangma.
The WGH police further said that they are looking for others who are absconding.
During a press conference, Meghalaya DGP on Tuesday said that the main motive behind the mob attack was to harm CM Conrad Sangma physically.
He also said that the attack was a pre-planned conspiracy.
Mob attack in Tura
While the meeting between CM Conrad Sangma and ACHIK and other NGOs was underway, a mob attacked the CM’s office, and in retaliation, police were forced to fire tear gas shells.
“At least five police personnel were injured when the crowd attacked the CM’s secretariat at Tura in the evening today. In the melee, police were forced to fire tear gas shells to disperse the crowd,” said officials.
Ampareen’s reaction on mob attack
Talking about the incident, Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh tweeted on Tuesday that peaceful protests are important in our democratic society, but protests that take a violent turn are completely unacceptable.
She said that those responsible for attacking police personnel at the Mini Secretariat must face the law.
