Garo Hills’ renowned educationist and founder of Sherwood School, Tyrone D’Brass, feted by Anglo Indian community

Tura, Oct 14: One of the well-known teachers from Garo Hills and one of the founders of the famous Sherwood School in Tura , Tyrone D’Brass, has been honoured with “The Stracey Reach for the Stars Award” by the All-India Anglo-Indian Association (AIAIA).

D’Brass was presented the award for his immense contribution to the education sector during the annual conference of the association at Ranchi on October 12.

“We are proud to present the award to eminent educationist and founder of Sherwood School, Tura, Meghalaya, Tyrone D’Brass for the remarkable contribution he has made in the field of English Medium School Education in the state of Meghalaya and North East India over the last four decades,” stated the citation handed over by Barry O’Brien, President-in-Chief of AIAIA.

D’Brass started his teaching career at the well known St Edmund’s school, Shillong in 1984. The following year Tyrone joined the Assam Rifles Public School, Laitkor, Shillong where he joined Bruce Beddoe and together they established Sherwood School, Tura in 1986.

Meanwhile, during the event, the Darjeeling Hills-Dr Graham’s Homes was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. Started in 1900 by Scottish Missionary John Anderson Graham, Dr Graham’s Homes was established for Anglo Indian students and over the years enrolled students from across the country, including the north east.
