Tura, Sept 18: The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has initiated the process to release pending salaries of its employees, with immediate payment of 10 months’ dues.
According to an official directive issued by the Secretary to the Executive Committee, the GHADC has also assured that the remaining backlog of salaries will be cleared in three installments at the earliest. From November 1, monthly salaries will be paid regularly. Employees have been requested to resume their duties immediately.

Meanwhile, a crucial meeting was held at the Tura Circuit House on Thursday between members of the GHADC Sub-Committee, MDCs from both the ruling and opposition, to deliberate on the proposed bailout package and the issue of 44 months of pending salaries.
The agenda of the meeting was to obtain first-hand inputs on the long-standing salary crisis in GHADC and to discuss the state government’s bailout plan, which includes the regular disbursement of salaries starting November 1.
Later in the day, the Sub-Committee is also scheduled to meet with pressure groups and civil society members to gather wider views and suggestions on the way forward.
