BJP MDC and both kin of CM find berth in new GHADC Executive Committee

Tura, May 3: The new Executive Committee of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council to be headed by NPP MDC Benedic R Marak has finally been formed with Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik clearing the list of ten executive members belonging to the NPP led Garo Hills Democratic Coalition (GHDC) alliance.
Prominent among the list are the Deputy CEM Nikman Ch Marak of the Garo National Council and two brothers-in-law of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma who won from Jengjal and Asanang, respectively.
New Jengjal MDC Grahambell A Sangma, who defeated sitting Congress MDC Levastone T Sangma, and Anseng A Sangma who won from Asanang constituency, near Tura, are two younger brothers-in-law of the chief minister.
In a snub to the Meghalaya BJP President Ernest Mawrie and Tura BJP MDC Bernard Marak, both of whom had opposed joining hands with the NPP, rebel BJP MDC from Dalu Promod S Koch has been appointed as an Executive Member.
Koch had defied Mawrie and Bernard Marak’s order and went ahead to align with the NPP alliance and said he had the blessings of the party leadership. It may be mentioned that BJP leader and Meghalaya Health Minister A L Hek along with National Vice President and Meghalaya in charge M Chuba Ao had met with the two newly elected MDCs in Tura during which they had categorically stated that the BJP cannot be party to the Congress camp.
The decision of the NPP to accommodate the Dalu BJP MDC into the new Executive Committee has left Tura MDC Bernard Marak out in the cold without any opportunity of EM position, any longer.
New Rochonpara MDC Arbinstone B Marak (Independent), who against all odds gave a shock defeat to CEM Dipul Marak of the NPP, has also been rewarded with a portfolio, as also was Sengbat R Marak (NPP) who defeated GNC heavyweight and former Deputy CEM Augustine R Marak from Silkigre constituency in Chokpot, South Garo Hills.
Senior MDC Dormonath Ch Sangma who retained his MDC seat in Naguapara, Tikrikilla, has also been given a berth in the new EC alongside Henen R Sangma (NPP) representing Rongjeng, Crozier G Momin (NPP) who is the new MDC from Bolsong (Bajengdoba) and Nathawal S Marak (Independent), one of the youngest in the group who won from Wagesik (Baghmara) defeating sitting MDC Sengnal N Sangma.
