GHADC polls on April 9, counting on April 14

Shillong, Jan 28: The cabinet on Thursday has decided to hold election to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on April 9. The result of which will be declared on April 14.

Addressing the media after the cabinet meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that notification for the election will be issued on March 8, and model code of conduct will come into force.

He also informed that publication of draft electoral roll will be issued on February 4.

Last date for filing of claims and objections will be on February 18, and disposal of claims and objection on March 1. The final electoral roll will be published on March 6.

The date for calling the constituencies to elect their representative will be March 8. Last date filing of nomination will be March 15 before 3 pm. Date of scrutiny of nomination paper will be March 15. Last date of withdrawal of nomination paper will be March 19.

On March 22, valid nomination will be declared and symbols will be allocated.

The term of GHADC had ended on October 18, 2020. In view of the Covid-19 pandemic holding of the General election of new members to the district council was deemed unfeasible.
