Nongpoh, Sept 27: A foreign object resembling glass was discovered in medicines prescribed for children at the Civil Hospital, Nongpoh. The incident came to light when a vigilant mother from Nongpoh reported finding the foreign object in medicine prescribed for her six-year-old child.
Responding promptly to this alarming report, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Nongpoh Circle, called for a meeting with the District Medical Health Officer (DMHO) of Ri Bhoi on Wednesday. During the meeting, the KSU voiced their apprehensions and urged an immediate inquiry into the matter.

This incident has spurred the KSU to seek answers and assurance regarding patient safety at Civil Hospital in Nongpoh.
The DMHO Ri Bhoi provided an update, stating that the specific object found in the medicine has been sent for testing by the Medicine Inspector. Notably, this marks the first complaint of this nature related to medicine at the Civil Hospital Nongpoh.
In a proactive measure to safeguard patients’ well-being, DMHO Ri Bhoi has assured the temporary suspension of the distribution of the particular medicine within the district, pending a decision by the state government.
