Imphal, Jan 28: Concerned individuals, both from Manipur and around the world, have rallied together to provide support to the grieving families affected by the recent atrocities in Manipur. Four daily wage earners from Wangoo Terakhong Akasoi, Kumbi, fell victim to Kuki militants on January 10, followed by another incident in Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou where four innocent farmers were also brutally attacked on January 17.
To aid the families of the Kumbi victims, a Global Contribution Campaign was conducted, resulting in a total collection of Rs 6,48,941. A portion of this fund was decided to be shared with the victims of Ningthoukhong, highlighting the compassionate response to the distressing events.
Ringo Pebam, who initiated the fund drive in Manipur, outlined the support provided, including looms and sewing machines for income generation and the purchase of bicycles to replace those lost by the victims. The remaining funds were deposited into the respective bank accounts of the families.
International contributors, including those from the USA, Canada, and Europe, expressed their solidarity with the victims and underscored the importance of supporting fellow community members in need. The tragic incidents have prompted a collective call for long-term solutions to the ongoing conflicts in the region, with a plea for the government to address the plight of villagers affected by the violence.
