Gorsam Kora festival marks India- Bhutan friendship

Arunachal Pradesh, Mar 10: The Gorsam Kora festival, symbolises the enduring friendship between India and Bhutan. The festival began on 7th March and concluded on the 10th March this year. The event, highlighted the cultural richness of the region.

The festival was organised by the local community of Zemithang in collaboration with civil authorities and with active support from the local Indian Army Units.

The festival commenced with an invocation Thengtse Rinpoche, followed by solemn prayers at the revered Khinzemane Holy Tree which is believed to be planted by the 14th Dalai Lama.

The three day event witnessed chanting of sacred mantras and traditional Buddhist rituals. Pilgrims and Lamas from Bhutan, Tawang, and neighbouring regions,participated in the festival. Approximately 40 civilians from Bhutan also took part in the Gorsam Chorten.

The festival featured a diverse array of events, with performances by local cultural troupes and by the Indian army bands, martial performances like Mallakhamb and Zanjh Pathaka.

The festival this year was themed around ‘Zero Waste Festival’ wherein cleanliness drive was conducted by Further and Beyond foundation, an NGO with support from Indian Army and the local administration.

Wangchu a youth from Zemithang sports club and his friends said that the event brings guests from far-off regions and boast local tourism.
