Shillong, Mar 13: The state government on Tuesday approved the proposal for the purchase of a landfill site for Williamnagar in East Garo Hills District.
Informing this after a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “We have also cleared today the purchase of a landfill site in Rongakgre in East Garo Hills for the town of Williamnagar. As you are aware these new sites will not technically be landfill sites but they will actually be sites where recycling and segregation of wastes will take place.”
He also informed that yesterday, the government had laid the foundation stone for the bio-mining of Marten and the work for this has already been allotted to one agency and expects the work to start this week itself and the same agency will also be working in Tura.
Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved the amendment of the Meghalaya Cooperative Service Rules, 2003 and the Meghalaya Urban Affairs Service Rules for streamlining the two departments.
