Shillong, Aug 28: Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, on Wednesday said the government is examining the proposal for creation of Mawsynram civil sub-division and new district in East Khasi Hills district.
Replying in the Assembly, Tynsong said that the government is also considering proposal for creation of new community and rural development (C&RD) blocks.
“The main intention of the government (to create new district, civil sub-division and C&RD blocks) is to bring administration towards nearest location of the people,” he added.
While raising the issue, TMC legislator from Nongthymmai, Charles Pyngrope, emphasized the need for the government to consider the creation of a new district taking into consideration that East Khasi Hills is one of the biggest districts in the state.
UDP legislator Mawsynram, Ollan Sing Suin, on the other hand, said that Mawsynram deserves to be granted a civil sub-division as its population is much more bigger than Pynursla and Ranikor and that many villages are situated at difficult terrains.
“Therefore, it is only a civil sub division that can bring administration closer to the people,” he asserted.
In response to this, the Deputy CM reiterated that the proposal for creation of Mawsynram civil sub-division is being examined in detail by the government.
“Once examination is done, I will be in a position to tell the member and people of Mawsynram,” he said.
