Govt expecting notification for exemption of implementation of CUET soon: Rymbui

Shillong, May 4: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday informed that the State Government is expecting anyday now in receiving the notification for exemption for implementation of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in the State but also urged students to continue registering as it will benefit if they want to pursue higher studies outside the State.

Notably, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on May 2 informed that the Centre has exempted students from appearing for the CUET in NEHU affiliated colleges – both private and government funded, but it is mandatory for those applying for admission to North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and colleges within its two campuses at Shillong and Tura.

Speaking to reporters, the Education Minister said, “The State Government is yet to receive the notification but the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has given his assurance during a meeting with our Chief Minister in Delhi and we from the State have considered the assurance to be final.”

He said that students should continue with the registration, to take this as a challenge, the more a student take up these tests it will help them gear-up for competitive exams in the near future.

When asked, Rymbui said he has no comment whether the registration fee will be refunded back to the students who has finished with the registration. “The registration fee will not be wastage, once you register… go appear for the test, you will gain experience and this will help the students in their future, the more we appear for examinations, it help in enrichment of capacity and our knowledge”.

Rymbui futher informed that the government is fighting for setting-up more CUET centres and also the government has put up demands in setting-up NEET centres in Garo Hills.
