Govt fast-tracks Tura Medical College, aims completion by 2026-27

Shillong, March 12: Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Wednesday said the government is leaving no stone unturned to make the Tura Government Medical College functional at the earliest.

Replying in the Assembly during the question hour, Lyngdoh said steps are being taken to fast track the completion of the project.

“Yes, this project is also close to our hearts…and we will leave no stone unturned to ensure (target to complete it) by 2026-27 actually becomes a reality,”she assured.

The minister also informed that the government is calling the National Medical Council (NMC) for inspection.

She said the government is working to increase additional 180 beds to achieve 400 beds as per NMC norms.

To a question raised by Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma, Lyngdoh said that the status of Tura government medical college is 75%.

The total area of land donation by the clan for the project is 99.00 acres.

“The total amount of money sanctioned  by the government of India (GoI) for the project till date is Rs 170.10 crore. The total amount of money released to the PMC till date is Rs 185.65 crore. The total amount of money released to the contractor for the PMC till date is Rs 178.66 crore,” she informed.
