Shillong, Oct 31: Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Thursday informed that the state government is taking steps to complete the construction of the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS).
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said, “I expect in the next one year time, we will see things happening.”
“Out of 38 EMRS, 2 have been completed already and some are already in the advanced stage. 22-25 are yet to be started but I am sure in the days to come, we will move faster,” he added.
He said that construction of the EMRS has been handed over to the state government because earlier the implementation was done by MTDC from Manipur.
Asked, Sangma said that there are some locations where the EMRS projects are facing problems of land.
“We have instructed the deputy commissioners and concerned officials and BDOs to sort out the issues because the ministry asks for free of cost land but here land belongs to the people so it is difficult to get free of cost land. State government is taking responsibility in sorting out this issue,” he added.
