Shillong, April 24: The much-awaited Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) Phase-III is facing various challenges that led to further delay of its completion.

Informing this on Thursday, Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Marcuise N Marak said work is going on for completion of the project.

“However, it (project) got stuck up because of so many issues, one of them is that the exact amount sanctioned for the scheme was not sufficient. For that reason, we have to move some more funds from the different sources and in that line we took some time,” he said.

He also added, “Later on, while implementing there were several issues that came up that include the land issue, clearance from forest, from the cantonment area and department and so on and so forth.”

The minister said till now the project is faced with challenges. “We have to dig out the roads as we have to lay the pipes – these are issues contributing to the delay in completing the project,” he added.

Asked on the alleged lack of coordination between the PHE and PWD departments, the minister however said such issues have to be tackled diligently.
