Shillong, Mar 31: The cyclonic storm this evening has affected over 60 houses in Ri-bhoi district of Meghalaya. An official said that about 35 houses in Umshalani village and 25 houses in Umsalliang village, both under Jirang sub-division has been affected.
Deputy Commissioner of Ri-bhoi Arpit Upadaya said about 60 houses were damaged in Jirang block, and one person has sustained minor injuries. Trees and kutcha houses have been damaged in many parts of Ri-bhoi with electrical lines snubbed.
An official said that 200 people have been shifted to a Dorbar hall and in a school in Jirang sub-division.
In Tura town, several trees has been uprooted with roofing of various houses damaged. The disaster response team of district administration are assessing the damage, an official said.
Heavy rains are being reported from various parts of the State, including State capital Shillong.
