Guwahati, Feb 4: In a crackdown against contraband items, two people from Assam’s Cachar district have been arrested for possessing heroin in west Mizoram’s Mamit district.
After getting information regarding the drugs, the officials of the department launched an operation at Tuidam village on Friday during which 763 grams of heroin was seized from the possession of the two accused.
The accused have been identified as Abdul Mazid and Majibur Rahman, both aged 24.
The two accused were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the statement added.
The contraband was seized while being smuggled to another state.
A Mahindra Bolero (ZLX Model) used for transporting the contraband was also seized by the department.
