Agartala, Dec 2: The Hindu Sangharsh Samiti (HSS) staged a massive protest in Agartala on Monday, condemning the arrest of Hindu spiritual leader Chinmoy Prabhu and the reported persecution of religious minorities in Bangladesh.
Chinmoy Prabhu’s arrest earlier this week on sedition charges and the subsequent denial of his bail by the court have sparked widespread demonstrations across Bangladesh, including in Dhaka and Chattogram.
In Agartala, HSS members, holding placards and banners, raised slogans against the Bangladesh government, accusing it of targeting the Hindu community. “We are here to protest the false charges against Hindus in Bangladesh,” said Shankar Rai, an HSS member. “Our main demand is for the government to cease these atrocities. We call upon Hindus everywhere to unite and stand against these injustices.”
Meanwhile, the Sanatani Aikya Manch, a coalition of Hindu organizations from Assam’s Barak Valley, organized a ‘Bangladesh Chalo’ march in Sribhumi district on Sunday, drawing hundreds in solidarity with Bangladesh’s persecuted Hindus.
In response to rising tensions, Agartala’s ILS Hospital, the city’s largest private healthcare provider, announced the suspension of services for Bangladeshi patients. This decision followed protests outside the hospital on Saturday, where slogans such as “Jai Shree Ram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” were raised.
Bangladesh’s Hindu minority, comprising about 8% of the country’s 170 million population, has reportedly faced over 200 attacks in more than 50 districts since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government on August 5.
