Shillong, Oct 17: Opposition AITC legislator from Mawsynram, Himalaya Shangpliang, on Monday urged the state government to consider the proposal of the Seng Khasi for implementing 17 projects, which are mainly for construction of a Seng Khasi Hall.
The request was made during a meeting held between officials of the Arts & Culture department and the delegation of 17 Seng Khasi groups from Mawsynram area.
Speaking to reporters, Shangpliang said the meeting was convened by the Minister of Arts and Culture Sanbor Shullai but unfortunately he could attend as he was not keeping well.
On his behalf, the Commissioner & Secretary in-charge Arts and Culture and Director of Arts and Culture were present and they listened to the representations brought forward by the groups from Mawsynram constituency. Most of them have requested the need for construction of the Seng Khasi Hall.
The Seng Khasi Hall are a location or are a place where on every occasion, once a year or twice a year, this particular hall is utilized during the ceremony conducted by the Seng Khasi, Shangpliang said adding that, therefore, this logistic support in the form of a hall is very essential particularly in the rural areas and that too in the areas of Mawsynram where there is continuous rainfall.
“Therefore we have appealed to the arts and culture department to consider sanctioning of these particular halls that have been brought forward by our friends from the Seng Khasi,” he said.
The MLA further informed that the Commissioner & Secretary of Arts and Culture has accepted all the representations and has assured that the proposals would be examined by the department.
“The technical wings will be deputed to the respective places and accordingly these proposals would be looked into to consider them during the current financial year,” he said.
