HNLC demands inquiry report on encounter of Cheristerfield Thangkhiew to be made public

Must read

SHILLONG, July 19: The banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has demanded the state government to make public the report of the One Man Commission of Inquiry into the encounter of former Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew on August 13, last year.

The demand was made through its representative, the president of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Sadon K Blah on Tuesday.

“The HNLC would like to make it clear that the state government must make public the findings of the Justice T. Vaiphei inquiry committee regarding the assassination of late Cheristerfield Thangkhiew,” Blah told reporters.

The NGO leader said he does not see any reason why the government should delay in making public the findings of the committee.

“The report will be maximum only 50 pages and any class XII student will be able to finish reading the 50 pages in two days,” he said.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had recently said that the government is still examining the report of the One Man Commission of Inquiry.

“We have received the report and we are examining it. Obviously it is a very lengthy report like all the reports also,” he had said while assuring that “at an appropriate time we will be informing you about the outcome of the report.”

On May 20, the One Man Commission of Inquiry had submitted its report into the August 13, 2021 incident.
