According to information gathered by the two pressure groups, these workers had been granted working permits solely for the East Khasi Hills District and were not authorized to engage in work elsewhere. Both the HNYF and JPWO expressed strong criticism towards Dhar Company for employing outsiders, especially when local youths are struggling to secure viable employment opportunities. However, they also made the helpless labourers do sit-ups as punishment for not having proper papers.
