Hospitality stakeholders meet in Tura, discuss strategies to boost tourism in Garo Hills

Tura, June 7: The Hospitality Stakeholders Meeting was convened at Circuit House, Tura on Wednesday, which saw the presence of Senior Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, A V D Shira and Regional Director North East, Ministry of Tourism, Anil Oraw. The meeting was held in order to discuss and plan a road map of various tourist spots of Garo Hills region and make it a much desired tourist destination.

Speaking during the meeting, A V D Shira mentioned that various schemes and programmes related to Tourism have been organised earlier but, nowadays, not much is happening and expressed hope that the office of the Regional Director of North East would become pivotal to improve the tourism sector in the region.

During the meeting, the Regional Director North East, Ministry of Tourism, Anil Oraw said that he had visited many places in the North East including Meghalaya earlier but lamented that tourist destination of Garo Hills did not feature much and, hence, there are less tourists visiting this place. Informing that this is his first visit to Tura, he inquired the challenges and issues faced by the people as well as tourist and shared his vast experiences of promoting and selling tourism in the region.

Mentioning his observation, he said that Garo Hills has many unique tourist destinations with a scenic beauty of Sal trees on the roadside and greenery, and added that this has to be advertised so as to attract tourists while assuring to extend his support and cooperation to promote tourism in the region.

Many issues and topics were taken up for discussion during the meeting, which included: Generic online marketing campaign of North East in various social media namely, facebook, instagram, youtube, google, etc, printing of online e-brochures or maps with some unique tourist products or destinations to all India tour operators and associations, North East Road Shows in major source markets for example, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Fam trips for tour operators, travel agents from major source market to North East, Fam or educational trips of Bloggers selected from North east, Educational or Fam trips to North east Tour Operators within North east region so that everyone is well aware of products and services of North east to promote in better way, Awareness and sensitization workshop for tourist Taxi, coach, drivers, guides, hoteliers, etc and celebration of International Yoga Day 2023 on 21st June, 2023 to be celebrated on any one of the tourist spot.
