Shillong, July 30: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) remains undecided on its lone Cabinet berth, with party president K.P. Pangniang confirming on Tuesday that no final decision has been made on whether its two MLAs will share ministerial responsibilities.
“Regarding the reshuffle of our party’s minister, we will sit, discuss, and take a final call in the future. As of now, nothing has been settled or finalised. We need further discussions on this,” Pangniang said, addressing growing speculation while stressing the party’s intent to hold internal consultations before making any changes.
At present, the HSPDP—an influential partner in the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA)—is represented in the Cabinet by Shakliar Warjri, who holds the Sports and Youth Affairs portfolio. However, growing voices within the party are calling for the inclusion of its second MLA, Methodius Dkhar, raising questions of equitable representation.
The internal push within the HSPDP comes amid heightened speculation over a broader Cabinet reshuffle, as the MDA nears the midpoint of its term. Similar demands are reportedly surfacing within other coalition partners—including the BJP, National People’s Party (NPP), and United Democratic Party (UDP)—where several legislators remain without ministerial positions.
While the MDA leadership has so far maintained a guarded stance, political observers suggest a reshuffle could materialize as early as September. Given the coalition’s fragile balance, any changes would require careful negotiations
