Tura, March 25: Following a report by Hub News exposing the unhygienic conditions and unregistered food establishments in Tura, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Supply), West Garo Hills, has directed immediate inspections of restaurants, hotels, bakeries, and street fast food stalls in the region.
In an official communication issued on Tuesday to the Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, the Joint Director of Supply, West Garo Hills, expressed concern over the operation of several food establishments that are not registered under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) — a mandatory requirement for any business dealing with food.
The directive was issued after videos circulating on social media allegedly showed unhygienic kitchens and food preparation areas, raising alarm about public health and food safety.

“Some of the kitchens are unhygienic for preparation of food items and unfit for human consumption,” the letter noted.
The Food Safety Officer has been instructed to take swift and appropriate action under the FSSAI Act and to conduct routine inspections to prevent such violations. The Food Safety Officer has also been asked for an action taken report to be submitted at the earliest.
