In a move aimed at tightening security and streamlining visitor data, the Tourism Department of Meghalaya has announced that all accommodation providers in the state including hotels, guesthouses, homestays, lodges, inns and bed-and-breakfast establishments must now register through a mandatory online platform.
Following a report by Hub News exposing the unhygienic conditions and unregistered food establishments in Tura, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Supply), West Garo Hills, has directed immediate inspections of restaurants, hotels, bakeries, and street fast food stalls in the region.
