Imphal, Oct 3: Finally, after one-and-a- half year, a positive story has come out from the trouble-torn northeastern state of Manipur where Meiteis and Kukis were in violent confrontation but a rare and heartwarming video has surfaced where Kukis and Meiteis were seen hugging each other.
This rare visual was from Gamgiphai in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
According to reports, the visual is of two abducted youths, who were in detention in an alleged Kuki dominated area since September 27, 2024. They were released on Thursday morning at around 5 AM.
The two youths were handed over to CoTU, who later handed them to the District Police led by SP Manoj Prabhakar, who later took them to Imphal to be handed over to their family.
According to reports, three youths from Thoubal district accidentally entered into Kangpokpi district on September 27. On the intervention of CoTU, one of them was released unconditionally the same day.
Following CoTU’s intense pressure and efforts, the two youths were safely released on Thursday morning.

But the Kuki-Zo village volunteers placed two demands of their safe release.
Their demands included – shifting of all Kuki-Zo inmates at Sajiwa Jail in Kuki-Zo dominated areas and establishment of Police Station in the Phailengmong area, which is a vulnerable fringe area in Phailengmol (Island) Sub Division in Kangpokpi district.
Since May 3, 2023, Manipur has been boiling due to the ethnic conflict between the two communities. More than 225 people have been killed and some 60,000 have been displaced since the tension began.
