Shillong, Oct 2: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Vincent H Pala on Saturday said there is no difference between him and the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mukul Sangma.
According to him, Sangma has expressed disappointment against the manner in which the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is taking arbitrary decisions related to the appointment of a new MPCC chief without any consultation with the CLP.
“He has nothing against me. Mukul told me that the way they appoint the president, it should have been consulted with the CLP and senior leaders of the party,” Pala told reporters after a PEC meeting held here.
He again reiterated, “Personally, there is nothing (between) me and him. Dr Mukul said that the AICC did not consult him so the issue has nothing to do with me – as I have not taken any decision against anybody be it MLAs or Dr Mukul – but (more) with the AICC.”
Asked, the MPCC chief informed that the AICC has not sought for any report into the alleged move by the Congress MLAs to quit the party but has only called Dr Mukul to Delhi.
“As of now they (AICC) have not asked for a report rather Dr Mukul told me they have called him to Delhi so we will see what they discuss with him in Delhi,” he said.
Stating that there is a mechanism to resolve issues within the party, the Shillong MP however said, “If they (AICC) ask for any report, then we will definitely give them a fair and transparent report.”
Mukul on Friday had informed that he is likely to travel to Delhi on Sunday and asserted the need for the AICC to resolve the issues within the party ahead of the upcoming bye-elections to the three Assembly seats slated for October 30.
On the other hand, Pala categorically denied the allegation made by the NPP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong that the Congress has broken beyond repair.
“Congress is a big family and is dynamic in politics. You see half of the cabinet in the present government are all who have passed out from the Congress and joined there and some of them may join back and some may stay there. So that’s the beauty of the Congress. It is like a school for politics in Meghalaya,” he said while adding that almost 30 percent of the politicians in the BJP are also from the Congress.
He further added that there is denying the fact that there will always be push and pull in every political party be it Congress, UDP, BJP.
“I am also told that the cabinet in the NPP don’t talk to each other, they don’t see eye to eye sometimes so that must be a perception but in reality we all work for the interest of the people and the party,” he said.
The MPCC also cited an example that despite Christians having different denominations it is the Holy Spirit that binds them together.
“Also when we are in the party we may have different views, we agree, we disagree but what binds us together is the party and the decision of the high command,” he said while reassuring that there is nothing to worry about the overall performance of the party.
