Shillong, Dec 24: With the Meghalaya Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh giving his approval to the merger of 12 Congress legislators into All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Ampareen Lyngdoh said she respects the Speaker’s decision and she will not pursue the petition any further.

However, she said the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, Vincent H Pala, may have a different opinion on this, and that the party awaits his decision.

“My personal view is simple, the Speaker has decided and I respect his order… I will not pursue this petition forward because our campaign will take priority in 2022,” she said after the verdict of the Speaker came out on Thursday.

Ampareen had filed petitions before the Assembly Speaker for disqualification of the 12 MLAs led by former chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma as per the Tenth Schedule to the Constitution of India.

Stating that the party however may have a different view on the matter, the CLP leader said, “On this our President will decide and we await his decision on the matter.”

“As a CLP we took the available space to move a petition against the desertion, this being an opportunity to object to the manner in which the exodus was disclosed, hence no regret on that.”

“However, taking this forward would be an unnecessary diversion from the task before us. We still have our election platforms to continue discussion on this betrayal and at the end of the day, the public will decide and present their verdict on the election results,” she further stated.
